The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a lifeline for approximately 23 million low-income households, is on the brink of depletion. This program, which provides monthly subsidies for internet bills, is crucial for families to access essential services and manage healthcare costs. Despite its launch with $14.2 billion in 2021, funds are expected to be exhausted by this month or May. A bipartisan bill proposing a $7 billion refill is currently stalled in Congress. The potential loss of internet access would disproportionately impact vulnerable groups, including senior citizens. It is imperative to expedite the passage of this bill to prevent a digital divide that could exacerbate existing inequalities. The urgency of this matter cannot be overstated.
