I am writing to express my profound opposition to the continued use of United States military force—funded by my taxpayer dollars—that results in the death of children and the destruction of schools, as seen in recent reports regarding Department of Defense actions in Iran.
The killing of children is a moral failure that no geopolitical strategy can justify. Beyond the ethical catastrophe, this cycle of violence undermines our national security by fostering generational trauma and radicalizing populations against us indefinitely.
I am asking you to:
• Advocate for Strict Oversight: Ensure that no U.S. funds or military operations target civilian infrastructure, specifically schools and hospitals.
• Review Cost-Benefit Analysis: Question the fiscal and human cost of missile strikes—often exceeding $2 million per unit—that result in civilian casualties rather than stability.
• Prioritize Diplomacy over Attrition: Shift our foreign policy toward fostering mutual prosperity rather than maintaining a status quo of "collateral damage."
Under international law, including the Geneva Conventions (Protocol I), the targeting of schools and civilians is a violation of the principle of distinction. Furthermore, the Leahy Laws are intended to prohibit U.S. military assistance to foreign units that commit gross violations of human rights. We must hold our own Department of Defense to these same rigorous standards.
Every moment we remain silent on these actions, we remain complicit. I look forward to hearing how you plan to address these concerns and what steps you will take to ensure our foreign policy reflects the value of human life.
