I am writing to urge you to take advantage of the Department of Justice's offer to review unredacted Epstein files starting Monday and to use this access to hold accountable any public officials who may have enabled or had knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein's crimes.
The Justice Department will now allow members of Congress to review more than 3 million unredacted files at DOJ facilities with 24 hours' notice. This represents a significant opportunity to uncover the full truth about Epstein's network and anyone who may have facilitated his abuse of dozens of underage girls. While you will need to review these files on DOJ computers without staff assistance and can only take handwritten notes, this access is crucial for a complete accounting of this case.
Rep. Ro Khanna, who sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act, has already identified emails between Epstein and redacted individuals that appear to reference the sexual abuse of underage girls. These communications suggest that others beyond Epstein himself may bear responsibility for these crimes. Epstein killed himself in 2019 while facing charges that he sexually abused and trafficked dozens of underage girls, more than a decade after he secretly cut a deal with federal prosecutors in Florida to dispose of nearly identical allegations.
The public deserves to know if any elected officials or other powerful individuals had knowledge of Epstein's crimes or helped facilitate them. Victims of sexual abuse and trafficking deserve justice, and that includes accountability for anyone who enabled this predator to continue operating for years after his initial prosecution.
I ask that you personally review these unredacted files, investigate any evidence of wrongdoing by public officials, and publicly report your findings. The American people are watching to see if Congress will pursue the truth wherever it leads, regardless of political considerations.
