Oppose Anti-Trans Sports Legislation and Stand With Trans Athletes

To: Rep. Miller, Rep. Dingell, Sen. Irwin, Gov. Whitmer, Pres. Trump, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

August 8

Stand up for trans athletes' right to compete. The anti-trans rhetoric swirling around professional women's sports right now isn't about fairness — it's about exclusion. WNBA MVP Gabby Williams said it plainly: banning trans athletes is "just another way to kind of attack trans people." She's right, and elected officials need to stop lending legitimacy to that attack. The organized protests at WNBA games, including a rally at Climate Pledge Arena on July 28 funded by outside donors paying $1,300 per seat, show this is a coordinated political campaign — not a grassroots concern from athletes. Real athletes like Williams and Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, who wore a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt courtside, are pushing back. Read more about Williams' stance here: https://www.them.us/culture/gabby-williams-trans-athletes. Legislators should be doing the same. Oppose any legislation that restricts trans participation in sports, and make clear that your office will not support policies built on fear and misinformation about trans people.
