I strongly disagree with the U.S. government's demand that Stockholm and other entities abandon their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. These programs aim to promote fairness and opportunities for all, regardless of characteristics like race, gender, or disability status. Demanding their termination undermines fundamental human rights and societal progress towards greater equality. The U.S. claims DEI efforts violate anti-discrimination laws, which is an absurd assertion. In fact, DEI programs help prevent discrimination and create more inclusive environments. Sweden's Discrimination Act rightly requires active efforts to combat bias and promote equal rights. Abandoning this would be a regressive step. No nation should dictate to others how to uphold human rights and social justice within their borders. The U.S. overstepped by pressuring Swedish companies and now the city government to drop DEI work that aligns with Swedish laws and values. This interference in another country's internal policies is unacceptable overreach. I urge you to reject the U.S. embassy's anti-DEI contract demands. Continuing DEI initiatives demonstrates a commitment to equality that will strengthen Stockholm as a diverse, equitable city for all residents. Do not capitulate to this misguided effort to undermine human rights.
