Reject dismantling vital NEPA environmental review processes

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Dean, Rep. Malagari, Sen. Collett, Pres. Trump, Gov. Shapiro

From: A constituent in Lansdale, PA

February 27

The administration's proposed rollback of nearly 50 years of regulations implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is deeply concerning. NEPA serves as a bedrock environmental law, ensuring federal agencies carefully evaluate and mitigate the environmental impacts of major projects. Rescinding these long-standing regulations through an interim final rule without public comment undermines transparency and public participation in the decision-making process. Established in 1970, NEPA has successfully protected the environment by mandating thorough environmental reviews and giving communities a voice. Its procedures have safeguarded air, water, wildlife, and public lands from harmful federal actions for decades. Gutting these regulations could allow projects with severe environmental consequences to proceed without proper scrutiny or mitigation measures. Environmental laws like NEPA exist to protect our natural resources and public health for current and future generations. I urge you to reject this reckless proposal that would claw back vital environmental protections. Rather than dismantling NEPA's review process, we should strengthen it to address modern challenges like climate change and environmental justice. The American people deserve a government that prioritizes environmental stewardship and robust public participation, not one that undermines foundational environmental safeguards behind closed doors.
