Vote Against Criminalizing Healthcare for Transgender Youth

To: Rep. Gillen, Sen. Gillibrand, Pres. Trump, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in Floral Park, NY

December 17

I am writing to demand that you vote against Marjorie Taylor Greene's bill criminalizing gender-affirming care for transgender youth when it comes to the House floor on December 17. This legislation threatens to destroy lives by imposing Class C felony charges carrying up to 10 years in federal prison on doctors, therapists, and medical professionals who provide evidence-based care to transgender young people. This is not about protecting children. This is about using the power of the federal government to terrorize families and criminalize compassionate healthcare. The bill deliberately mischaracterizes gender-affirming care as "bodily mutilation" and "chemical castration," language designed to inflame rather than inform. Medical professionals have confirmed repeatedly that puberty blockers are fully reversible, that fertility preservation options exist, and that many transgender individuals remain fertile after starting hormones. The actual care process involves careful, individualized assessment by medical teams working closely with families and therapists over extended periods. As Mike Zamore, the ACLU's National Director of Policy and Government Affairs, stated, this legislation "puts the threat of prosecution between hundreds of thousands of families and their doctors" and would imprison doctors for exercising medical judgment. Imagine telling a parent their child's doctor could face a decade in federal prison for providing the care that keeps their child alive and thriving. Transgender youth already face devastating rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Denying them access to evidence-based care does not protect them. It harms them. Voters in swing districts across the country have consistently rejected anti-trans messaging, as demonstrated by recent Democratic victories in states like Virginia. Your constituents want you to protect access to healthcare, not weaponize the criminal justice system against vulnerable children and their families. Vote no on this cruel legislation. Stand up for transgender youth. Protect medical freedom and family autonomy. This vote will define where you stand on basic human dignity.
