I am writing to demand you publicly condemn the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday and hold Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accountable for spreading false information about this tragedy.
Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was shot in the head by a federal agent during what the Department of Homeland Security called the "largest immigration operation ever" in Minnesota. She was not the target of any law enforcement investigation. She was a legal observer who was killed while 2,000 federal agents occupied Minneapolis.
Secretary Noem claimed Good attempted to ram officials with her SUV and that the agent fired in self-defense. This is demonstrably false. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey reviewed video evidence and stated that Good was driving away from federal agents, not toward them, calling the self-defense narrative "bull----." Video circulating online confirms this account, showing Good's vehicle reversing before driving forward when an officer standing near the front right side of the vehicle shot into it. The car immediately crashed into parked vehicles.
Noem's lie is not just a mischaracterization. It is propaganda designed to justify the unjustifiable killing of an American citizen. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated there is nothing to suggest the shooting of an unarmed woman was justified and called for criminal investigation to the full extent of the law.
This is not an isolated incident. In September, Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez was shot and killed by federal agents outside Chicago under similar disputed circumstances. In October, Border Patrol shot U.S. citizen Marimar Martinez during enforcement operations in Chicago. Text messages later revealed the agent appeared to brag about the shooting, writing "I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes." The case against Martinez was dismissed.
I urge you to publicly condemn this killing, call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the agent responsible, and demand Secretary Noem retract her false statements and resign. The FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating, but federal accountability requires congressional action. Minnesotans deserve truth and justice, not propaganda that covers up the killing of their neighbors.
