Uphold due process, rule of law - return Garcia

To: Sen. Sanders, Rep. Balint, Pres. Trump, Sen. Welch

From: A constituent in North Hero, VT

April 21

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the Trump administration's actions in the case of Kilmar Abregio Garcia. Despite a judge's 2019 order barring his deportation, Garcia was sent to El Salvador in what the administration has described as an "administrative error." This disregard for court orders is alarming and raises serious constitutional questions about due process and the rule of law. Furthermore, the administration has suggested the possibility of sending U.S. citizens convicted of violent crimes to El Salvador, potentially without due process. Such actions would not only violate fundamental constitutional protections but also set a dangerous precedent that undermines the very foundation of our democracy. I urge you to hold the administration accountable for these actions and to advocate for Garcia's return to the United States in compliance with the court's order. It is imperative that we protect the principles of due process and ensure that no administration is above the law. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing steps taken to uphold the integrity of our democratic system.
