I am writing to express my strong opposition to Governor Ron DeSantis and the direction he has taken our state. I fundamentally disagree with his immigration policies and expanded cooperation with ICE, which I believe create fear in immigrant communities and erode trust between families and law enforcement. Policies that prioritize harsh enforcement over humane solutions do not reflect the values of fairness and dignity that I believe Florida should uphold. I also strongly oppose his attacks on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Efforts to eliminate DEI programs in public colleges and restrict honest conversations about race and history undermine progress toward equal opportunity. Education should prepare students to think critically and understand the full scope of our shared history — not silence it. Finally, I am deeply concerned about his lack of meaningful support for public education. Instead of strengthening and fully funding our public schools, his policies have politicized classrooms, restricted educators, and diverted resources away from the public school system. Our students and teachers deserve investment, respect, and academic freedom — not culture wars. For these reasons, I cannot support Governor DeSantis’ agenda. Florida deserves leadership that unites communities, values inclusive education, protects civil rights, and fully invests in strong public schools for every child.
